AAMLO is a unique situation. As the building is a historical landmark, the "face" of the exhibition will need to personify AAMLO, but be compatible with the interior as well.
This was an early design concept. It was an artistic, sculptural expression, to capture the essence of African-American culture and be a visual counterpoint to the Beaux Arts style interior. Hand worked Cherry wood was the material of choice, to form and create the exhibition furniture. Also art glass, fabric and bunting, would be interspersed to help convey the American stories portrayed. The pavilions would protect the artifacts from the ambient sunlight, as well as house multimedia stations. |
